Bonfire!!
Friday night my roommates and I had a bonfire with a few friends from the YSA branch. It was quite fun. We went to the only beach in Juneau (Sandy Beach - which is actually imported sand. It took us about a half hour to start the fire because all the wood was wet. Once we got it started though it was pretty cool.
This guy and his girlfriend (?) and their dog Reno came over after we got it started and asked if they could join us. We let them. He asked how we all knew each other since we all worked for different companies and we said we met in our church ward. He asked what church and we said the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Then he said, "oh, you're mormons! Are you practicing, or no?" We said, why yes, we are practicing mormons! Before he
found that out, he was swearing like no other, but once he found out, he only swore a few
times and every time he did, he stopped himself, said sorry, and replaced the word with another one. It was actually pretty cool. He respected us even though the average age of our group was only about 23 and he was 30 and had seen the world through his time in the Navy Seals. It was cool how just the name of our church can alter people's perception of us. Do we live up to that name we bare?
It was fun to meet someone who knew of us "mormons," but hadn't lived around us.
